Our services and price list
We offer group classes, private lessons, Canine Good Citizen® testing, fun workshops, and informational seminars. We strive to help you meet your training goals. No dog is un-trainable, and we take pride in coaching people to achieve the best possible relationship with their dog. From basic household manners, to advanced off-leash obedience, we can get you there!

Group Class Descriptions
Basic Obedience - 6 week course - $240
For beginners of all ages. This class consists of one private orientation, followed by 5 group classes. You will gain on-leash control, create respect, and build the foundation for future success. In this class you will learn: "sit" "heel" "come" "down" "stay" and "stand". We will also teach you the importance of focus and engagement, and how to appropriately time your rewards and corrections.
Intermediate Obedience - 5 week course - $175
For graduates of Basic Obedience. In this fun and challenging class we will re-iterate and refine the basics, while incorporating hand signals and more challenging distractions. We will increase distance of recalls and start progressing toward off-leash control. *Previous Intermediate graduates can drop-in for $40/class (check with us first for availability)
Advanced Obedience - 5 week course - $175
For graduates of Intermediate Obedience who are ready to work off-leash. This is our highest level of training and is extremely rewarding for both you and your dog. Advanced students build an incredible bond with their dog, as well as a strong sense of community with their fellow students. Advanced classes include field trips to different places in the community. Students will be selected for Advanced Obedience on an individual basis.
House Manners - 6 week course - $240
House Manners is a fundamental class where we teach a lot of important skills that are not normally taught in an obedience course. This class is great for puppies, but is also very helpful for adult dogs who could be more polite in the home. We teach personal space (don't jump on people), manners at the doorway, not taking food/items that are off-limits, walking politely on the leash, and the very important "place" command. This class will involve a lot of personal attention from your coach, and class size is limited to 4 dogs.
Rally - 5 week course - $175
Rally Obedience is a fun and exciting canine sport. For those new to the sport, we teach all the novice signs, and send you through 2 different Rally courses. For experienced Rally students we offer instruction on the intermediate and advanced signs, and more practice courses. If you are interested in AKC competition, we will help prepare you for your first show. For those who have mastered the novice signs, we also offer Rally classes for the Intermediate and Advanced divisions. Many of our Rally students take the classes just for fun, and competition is not required. Most graduates of Intermediate Obedience are well prepared for Rally classes. Private lessons
$150/hour first lesson, $75/hour subsequent lessons*
Private lessons are available day or night, 7 days a week to fit your schedule. These lessons are tailored to your specific needs, and we can work at your home, at our training facility, or at one of the manydog friendly places in our community*. We can work at the Beautiful Nevada County Fairgrounds, go for a walk at Empire Mine, or stroll through the lovely Mill Street Plaza. If you are struggling with your dog's behavior, we encourage you to reach out no matter what the issue is. Private lessons are ideal for extremely shy or reactive dogs, as well as for people who prefer not to work in a group setting. *We are happy to travel to you, but there is an extra charge for mileage outside of the Grass Valley area.
Special workshops
Leash walking - 2 day workshop - $90
A great weekend crash-course to get your dog walking politely on the leash. This is a specialized class where we just focus on loose-leash walking. We will teach you how to use your leash and collar properly, how to utilize your energy and body language, and how to reward your dog at the right time and in the correct position. Good leash manners take time and practice, but in this short course we will give you all the tools you need to hit the ground running.
Canine Good Citizen® testing
$25 on one of our designated testing days, $60 for an on-demand test
Taylor is a certified evaluator for AKC's Canine Good Citizen® test. Started in 1989, the CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen® Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners, and basic good manners for dogs. We offer Canine Good Citizen® testing at Take the Lead, and can help guide you in your preparation for the test. You can read more about this exciting AKC program here.
Other Services
Prices vary
We are also available for a variety of other services. We can help prospective dog owners choose the right dog from a shelter or breeder. We are available for video consultations if you have questions and want some one-on-one time for getting advice. We have even trained dogs to participate in a client's wedding, and supervised them during the ceremony! Whatever your canine coaching needs, we are here for you! Don't hesitate to reach out and ask!
